Waltz (Smooth)
The Waltz was introduced in the Royal Courts of Europe in 1900 and is now danced all over the world. Characterised by its ¾ tempo and gliding motion it has become very popular at weddings and anniversary parties, as well as other formal social events.

Tango (Smooth)
The Tango originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in the 1920's and 30's. This sensual dance travelled to the elegant salons of Paris and became popular amongst the Bohemians of the United States. The Tango has many varying styles, of which we teach the American style in our beginners ballroom class.

Foxtrot (Smooth)
The Foxtrot is one of the most popular ballroom dances and has been enjoyed since the early 1880's.

A wonderful beginners dance, the foxtrot has simple step patterns and a moderate tempo. Often danced to big band music and Frank Sinatra style tunes, it is especially popular at weddings and social events.

Rumba (Rhythm)
The Rumba is a slow, romantic dance with a simple basic [step?]. It originated in Cuba in the 1940's and is inspired by African rhythms and Latin melodies.

Cha Cha (Rhythm)
The Cha Cha is a Cuban dance like the Rumba, but is danced with an advanced beat. A "cheeky" dance with synchronised movements and limited contact.

East Coast Swing (Swing)
Many aspects of the East Coast Swing were, and still are, influenced by the Charleston and the Lindy Hop. This energetic dance is characterised by spins, turns and throw-outs.
